Q:  i just found this little gem in my attic... im not sure if it was my family as I dont know w madge as the book was given to new, Christmas 1896 when it was published.

I looked at your site and did not see this cover displayed, so was wondering if you might have any info. Unfortunately the book is musty, its been in my attic since 1962 when my grandfather bought the house, its in a part of the attic that might have been left from previous owners.

I took some pics, they are in the zip file, if you need them resent, please advise. I look forward to any info you might be able to tell me.

A:  Your book is part of the Petit Trianon Series and was published in 1896/1897. All the books of this series have the same decoration on the left half of the cover but various floral/decorative designs on the right side. See ../series/series141.htm for more details.

All the titles in this series are reprints and have limited value.

Petit Trianon Series

Q:  I am hoping for some help identifying the year this was printed. There is a signature dated on the inside cover with 1896 and the introduction is dated 1878. The title is Tales from Shakespeare.

Thanks for your help!

A:  Your book was published in 1896 and is part of the Petit Trianon Series. This series of reprints originally was published with a labeled box. In 1896 the left side of the front cover is common to all of the books but the right side has been seen with a number of different decorative patterns.

For more information see ../series/series141.htm.

It only has nominal value.

Q:  Good evening,
I hope you can tell me something about this book I found? It is a small hard bound book by Sir Walter Scott called Marmion: A tale of Flodden Field. It's a Henry Altemus, Manufacturer, Philadelphia publication.

I've attached a pic...let me know if you need more.

A:  Your book was published in 1895-1896 and is part of the Petit Trianon Series. It is a reprint. See ../series/series141.htm

During these years the left side of the cover had a stereotypical pattern while the right side had any one of a number of different decorative and/or floral designs.

It originally came in a labeled box.

Q:  In digging more, we have also found the book published by Henry Altemus. It is Letters, Sentences and Maxims of Lord Chesterfield. This book is not in great condition as the first few pages are loose from the binding. I have looked on your web site and cannot find this at all. Thanks for your help with this.

A:  This book is from the Petit Trianon Series (../series/series141.htm) and was published in 1895-1896. It originally came in a labeled box. During these years the left side of the book remained constant while the right side had numerous different decorative and floral patterns. In fact, as of this time, I have seen twelve different right cover halves.

Because it is a reprint, it has only nominal value.

Q:  Hello,

We found this book while cleaning. It is in good shape. Is it valuable? Evangeline by Longfellow

Thank you for looking at this.

A:  Information about your book can be found here: ../series/series141.htm

It is part of the Petit Trianon Series which is a series of reprints of fiction, essays, poetry, classics, etc. It was published in 1897.

During that year this series featured a book cover with a number of different floral patterns on the right of the cover but with a never changing dot pattern on the left.

This book originally came in a labeled box.

Unfortunately there is not very much collector interest in reprints of this title. It has only nominal value.

Thank you!
